BolderBOULDER Team Challenge Gears Up

BOULDER, Colo. - The BolderBOULDER Team Competition provides a fun way for businesses, running clubs, families and other groups of competitive runners to compete for fame and prestige at the BolderBOULDER 10K race on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29.

L ast year, one hundred seventy-six teams competed. Team categories include corporate, active military, running clubs, families, public service, female, miscellaneous (open), seniors (60 years and up on race day) and masters (40 years and up on race day).

Top teams in each category and division receive a team award plus individuals on winning teams receive a small gift. Individual team members are also eligible for regular age category awards.

Non-profits can also compete in their own division in the third annual BolderBOULDER Non-Profit Challenge presented by Roche Colorado. The winning team will receive a $2000 donation to their organization. The second place winner will receive $750; and third place will receive $250. Each non-profit can enter only one team of four to six runners, which must include at least one female participant. All team members must either be on staff with the non-profit or a member of the board. This division is only open to Boulder County 501(c)(3) organizations whose mission includes a commitment to serving the community of Boulder County. Athletic based non-profits are excluded from this specific challenge.

Team registration is open until Friday, May 26. Team registration forms and fees must be submitted together in one package along with a $20 fee for each team.

The 2006 Corporate Team Challenge members must be employees working at least 30 hours per week for three consecutive months prior to the race and currently employed by the company. The corporate category is divided into to five divisions based on business size. Last year's winners included Ball 1, Roche Road Runners, Research Systems, Farmers Flyers and Wibby Environmental.

Public Service teams are limited to fire, police and medical personnel. Last year Boulder Rural Fire Department won the division with a time of 2:54:10, just seconds ahead of 2nd place winner Wheat Ridge Fire Department.

In all categories except family and the non-profit challenge, the best times are used to compute the team totals. In the family category, the finish times of the top four family members, in their respective ages, are added together. The families with the lowest totals receive awards. In the non-profit division, winning team will also be determined by adding up the times of the first four finishers per team, with winning teams having the lowest scores.
